"From Here to Eternity" is a novel by American author James Jones, published 1951.

The book was is set in 1941, and focuses on members of a U.S. Army infantry company in Hawaii in the months leading up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

The story was made into an Academy Award-winning film of the same title in 1953, and has also been the basis for TV series.

The title was inspired indirectly by a line from Rudyard Kipling's poem "Gentleman Rankers":

Gentlemen-rankers out on a spree,
Damned from here to Eternity,
God ha' mercy on such as we.
